« Losar on TV: The TAR version of the Chunwan show »
New Year is an important state-managed event in China, signaled not just by the weeklong holiday but also by the Chunwan or Spring Festival television show. Since the TAR was given its own television station, it has had its own version of the Chunwan to mark the Tibetan New Year, which also holds an important position in the media calendar there. This talk takes a preliminary, light-hearted look at how that show was staged this year and at the messages of cool connectedness and hip modernity that it conveys.
