The Namgyal Institute of Tibetology in Sikkim is in the process of expanding into a teaching institute affiliated to Sikkim University.  Degree programs in Buddhist Studies and Sowa Rigpa (Tibetan Medicine) will eventually be offered.
As a start, we propose to offer intensive short courses (4 to 6 weeks) by visiting faculty from 2017.  These short term courses, delivered in English, must be related to Buddhism. We are thus sending out this appeal to find out if any of you would be interested to come to Sikkim to deliver a BA level intensive short course (for credit), on any subject related to Buddhism. Courses may be given at any time of the year though the Sikkim winter holidays would be preferred (December to mid-February).
As an example, course subjects we would welcome are:
Buddhism and the Environment
Buddhist History of Tibet and the Himalayas
Comparative Anthropology of Buddhist Societies
Women in Buddhist Traditions
Himalayan Beyuls, Sacred Sites and Pilgrimage
Monastic Rituals and Music
Lay Buddhist Culture, Rites of Passage and Domestic Rituals
Buddhism, Art and Architecture
Etc.
The Institute will provide accommodation, all meals, and a modest remuneration depending on your teaching experience. The position is ideal for a professor on sabbatical or holiday, a retired scholar who wishes to pursue research activities in Sikkim while contributing to Sikkim society or for a Post-Doc level researcher not yet settled in a tenure track job.
