Founded in 2012, the Société Française d’Études du Monde Tibétain (French Society for Tibetan Studies) brings together students, teachers, researchers and specialists of the Tibetan world.
Within the realm of Tibetan studies it aims to maintain and develop:

  • research and exchanges between researchers, teachers,
    students and specialists
  • dissemination of scientific and cultural information
  • dialogue between various existing academic institutions
  • relations with French and foreign institutions

SFEMT website provides information on teaching and research structures in France, news about research in Tibetan world studies in France and abroad (conferences, publications, vivas, postings and scholarships, etc.), and cultural events related to the Tibetan world (film releases, screenings, exhibitions, etc.).

Since 2012 SFEMT has organised:

  • an annual cycle of conferences (6 to 8 conferences per academic year) in which specialists of the Tibetan world present
    their research
  • themed workshops (“Trichology in the Tibetan world” in
2014 and “Tibetan Studies in France” 2016)
  • days given over to PhD students (2013 and 2018)
  • public conferences, film screenings, encounters with
