The Department of Religion at Columbia University in the City of New York invites applications for the position of Jey Tsong Khapa Chair of Tibetan Buddhism at the rank of associate or full professor with tenure. Candidates are expected to have a strong grasp of classical Tibetan and relevant research languages.
Successful applicants will have a distinguished record in the academic study of religion and ability to contribute broadly to the department’s undergraduate, graduate, and public-facing programs. In addition, it is expected that the chair holder will serve in a supervisory role at Columbia’s Center for Buddhist Studies.
Qualifications
PhD, a distinguished record in the academic study of religion.

Review of applications will begin Monday, February 20th, 2023 and will continue until the position is filled. All applications must be made through Columbia University’s Academic Search and Recruiting (ASR) system. Please upload the following required materials: Applicants should submit a cover letter, a curriculum vita, a teaching statement, a statement of current and future research plans, and a writing sample. Candidates may supply either three letters of recommendation or a list of recommenders.  In the letter of application, we ask you to speak to your ability to work effectively with a student population that is broadly diverse with regard to gender and gender expression, race, ethnicity, nationality, sexual orientation, and religion.
