The Department of Religion at Colgate University invites applications for a one-year visiting assistant professor position: Religion and Global Modernity, beginning fall semester 2022. We seek a candidate with scholarly training in Religious Studies, as well as an ability to incorporate research interests into classroom curriculum, teaching undergraduates in a wide variety of fields, as well as religion concentrators, about religion’s importance to global modernity, e.g., religion and human rights, civic life and law.
Completion of a Ph.D. (preferably in Religious Studies) is required prior to or shortly after the date of hire. The successful candidate will be expected to teach a section of RELG 101: The World’s Religions, and contribute to Colgate University’s Liberal Arts Core Curriculum, explicitly the course CORE 152: Challenges of Modernity.
We invite applicants to submit a cover letter (1-2 pages), a CV, an article-length writing sample, evidence of demonstrated teaching effectiveness, and the names and email addresses of three individuals who are prepared to submit reference letters.
