Teaching Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching two six-week modules as part of our three-year Buddhist study-practice program:
Module 1: Development Stage Vajrayana Practice – 6 weeks
Module 2: Prajnaparamita (Perfection of Wisdom) – 6 weeks
Qualifications
Tergar Institute seeks candidates who bring both rigorous academic preparation and a deep, sustained personal engagement with the Tibetan Buddhist tradition. The ability to speak from direct experience of the tradition — not only from a theoretical or scholarly perspective — is essential. Candidates who can authentically integrate lived practice with academic inquiry are strongly encouraged to apply.
A PhD in the field of Buddhist Studies or a related area is preferred. ABDs and those with an MA in a related field may be considered. Experience teaching and a proficient understanding of experiential learning pedagogies is required. Candidates should possess strong grounding in Tibetan Buddhist philosophy and practice, with particular expertise in Vajrayana and/or Prajnaparamita traditions.
Preference will be given to candidates with a strong familiarity with Yongey Mingyur Rinpoche’s distinctive approach to Buddhist teaching and practice, including his integration of contemplative tradition with contemporary understanding.
Additional Responsibilities
Curriculum development done in collaboration with Institute faculty
Guiding seminar sessions based on course material
Mentoring participants in relation to their experience in the course as well as their Independent Study Projects
Providing service to the community to ensure a supportive experience for everyone involved
Compensation & Benefits
A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered. Additionally, successful candidates will have access to senior Khenpos for research purposes throughout their time in Nepal. Tergar Institute will also provide all room and board while in Nepal and a travel stipend for travel to/from Kathmandu.
